The song has been waiting many years to be born and I am so glad it’s finally arrived! It was written originally over just an acoustic bass line until our ensemble breathed another vision for it. The poetry/lyrics are definitely an homage in the Kurt Elling style of writing - a trumpet like vocal to accompany a true trumpet - wistful and nostalgic for the romance of the summer knowing that autumn will come and possibly change not only the leaves but the relationship as well.
