what people are saying about “everyday i fall in love”

"‘everyday i fall in love’ is less about recreating the past than understanding what makes jazz feel timeless in the present — a record built on trust, instinct and genuine connection." - Kara RIbinson @NotionFanLife

“Across the collection, love appears through flirtation, vulnerability, long-term familiarity and the possibility of being surprised by someone you know well. The original songs extend that perspective into the jazz repertoire, connecting established forms with the couple’s own writing.” - Achi Bennetti @ Fame Magazine

"Layne herself is an engaging and expressive vocalist. Her command of jazz phrasing gives the performances elegance…there is a genuine sense that she is inhabiting each song, whether she is celebrating the rush of falling in love or reflecting on the quieter dimensions of a lasting connection." - Elle McGuire @ RollingHype

“Penni Layne and Larry Jackson have created something sophisticated yet deeply human, a record where the musicians sound less like an ensemble simply performing songs and more like a group of people genuinely listening to one another.” - Lucas Watson @ MusicTimes

Everything I Got is a song about showing up fully - not halfway, not cautiously, but with your whole heart. It’s about choosing love again and again, even when you’ve heard all the stories before. Steady, soulful, and rooted in joy, this one came from a very special place.

The song has been waiting many years to be born and I am so glad it’s finally arrived! It was written originally over just an acoustic bass line until our ensemble breathed another vision for it. The poetry/lyrics are definitely an homage in the Kurt Elling style of writing - a trumpet like vocal to accompany a true trumpet - wistful and nostalgic for the romance of the summer knowing that autumn will come and possibly change not only the leaves but the relationship as well.

This track has been a true labor of love—a soulful,  danceable tune with a nod to the classic Motown  sound we adore. Including a memorable  “sing-out-loud” chorus— this one is the perfect tune that’ll have you hitting “repeat” all day long.

"What's Goin’ On" is our sentiment & lyrical tribute to the great Marvin Gaye - a reminder that music can heal even when things are at their darkest and that if we stand together our voice is that much stronger.

Dubbed the “barn burner” of our live set we felt the need to write a quintessential soul tune reminiscent of the ‘60’s classic hits for this one. The lyrics and music came rather quickly once the concept of stealing someone’s heart was established. We knew the rhythm section needed to be solid and subtle to get that feel and timelessness of the Motown sound and yet relevant to todays listeners. Once the instrumental tracks were laid down and the lead vocals, we had a ball creating those multi tracked girl group backing vocals. Alan Evans (of SoulLive) did the mixing & mastering for “The Thief” and we think his knowledge and expertise of the R&B / Soul genre have really given the song the edge it needed to make it truly special.

THE PLAYERS: Larry Jackson Music - Bass Steve Bankuti - Drums Ryan Claunch -Keys Nick Grondin - Guitar Bijon Watson - Trumpet Ben Romanow - Sax Brian Thomas - Trombone
